Google is integrating Gemini into Google TV – but users are encountering problems

In September 2025, Google began rolling out the new voice assistant Gemini on devices that support Google TV. It first appeared on TCL QM9K smart TVs and then gradually spread to other models.

How the Gemini setup looks
1. The first screen explains the feature and its purpose.
2. After tapping “Got it,” a second screen opens where the user can grant the assistant access to personal data: Google Photos, Calendar, etc. This option can be enabled or disabled.
3. On the final step, the user is prompted to choose Gemini’s voice.

However, during operation many users report that the system forces them to go through these steps multiple times when they try to use search on the TV.

Example of the problem
One Reddit participant recorded a video: when attempting to find an app, the user presses the search button, but after the search completes the Gemini setup screen appears again. This happens regardless of whether personalized search is enabled or “No thanks” is selected. As a result, an infinite loop occurs.

What other users say
- The same Reddit user notes that the problem isn’t limited to one TV: many experience similar difficulties.
- One person reported temporarily solving the issue by uninstalling a recent Google TV update. After rolling back, the system stopped looping.

Conclusion
Although Gemini promised to be a useful addition to the Google TV platform, in reality many users face glitches that make search nearly impossible. Until an official fix is released, a temporary workaround—rolling back the latest update—helps avoid the loop.
