Brief on the new “glass shattering” technology in GTA VI

The technical details of the upcoming open‑world crime action game from Rockstar Games remain a secret, but one key piece of information has become available thanks to a former studio employee.

Former Rockstar graphics programmer Brady Jessup led the development of a procedural glass breaking system for vehicles and environmental objects from February 2020 to April 2023. In his LinkedIn profile he described it as “next‑generation technology.”

What’s changed?

In GTA VI, glass destruction animations will not be pre‑programmed like in GTA V. Instead, shards and cracks are generated in real time, creating a unique result for each scene.

After the post was published, Jessup deleted it, likely because he had no right to disclose that information.

Context

This isn’t the first leak of details about GTA VI. Last winter an animator with 25 years of experience at Rockstar “revealed” footage from a test version of the game.

GTA VI is expected to launch on November 19 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Additionally, the UK tax authority recently accused Rockstar of underpaying the game's developers.
