AI generates 60 % of new Airbnb code, while the remaining 40 % of support questions is handled independently.
Airbnb Reveals AI Role After Q1 2026 Report
After publishing its financial results for the first quarter of 2026, the company conducted an extensive briefing on artificial intelligence usage. During the meeting it was noted that 60 % of the code created by Airbnb engineers in this period was written with the help of AI tools. Similar trends are observed among competitors: Google, Microsoft and Spotify are actively implementing comparable solutions.
What Makes AI Useful for Partners
Chief Executive Officer Brian Chesky emphasized that AI is especially valuable when developing tools that connect to Airbnb via API. Partners manage real‑estate properties using third‑party software and constantly demand more efficient work methods. According to the CEO, previously a new feature required a department of 20 engineers; now one specialist who oversees the AI agents is sufficient.
Customer Support Based on Chatbots
Airbnb is also actively developing AI in its support service. Currently the chatbot can independently resolve 40 % of requests without handing them over to an operator, whereas at the beginning of the year this figure was only 33 %. This indicates significant progress in automating customer service.
Search Experiments
The company is experimenting with AI in the search section as well. However, Chesky highlighted several limitations that currently hinder full integration:
1. Text input – users are accustomed to working with photos; text queries are inconvenient.
2. Parameter control – instead of a list of items it is convenient to use sliders and visual elements.
3. Comparing options – one branch can contain up to a thousand suggestions, but there are no convenient comparison tools.
4. Multi‑user bookings – most deals require the participation of several people, whereas chatbots usually work with a single user and do not support card operations at the native level.
Thus, Airbnb continues to expand AI application in key areas: from programming and customer support to search, while simultaneously working on eliminating existing limitations.
