Amazon tasked making the "Mass Effect" series more accessible to a broad audience not interested in video games
Amazon MGM Studios is preparing a new series “Mass Effect”
The Amazon MGM studio, which plans to adapt the popular sci‑fi RPG saga Mass Effect from BioWare, has decided to change its approach: instead of focusing solely on franchise fans and gamers, they want to attract a broader audience.
Peter Friedlander, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, announced that the series script will be rewritten to “be appealing to non‑gamers” — people who are unfamiliar with Mass Effect and video games in general. The idea is to create a “high‑end genre drama” that can engage an ordinary viewer.
At present plot details and casting remain unknown. Official information only indicates that the story will be based on the first game of the series, but this may be a temporary placeholder.
Earlier reports said that the adaptation is handled by a team already working on the series “Fallout.” The showrunner is Doug Jung, writer of “Star Trek: Picard.”
An exact release date has not been announced. Estimates suggest production could start only in Q4 2026 (from October to December), so viewers should expect a longer road to premiere.
