Apple demonstrated the widespread adoption of iOS 26 on devices worldwide
Apple released statistics on the adoption of new OS versions
Apple officially disclosed data on what percentage of devices are running iOS 26 and iPadOS 26. The figures for the last year showed different dynamics: iOS 26 popularity fell, while iPadOS 26 saw growth.
How the statistics were collected
The spread of new platforms is based on the number of iPhones and iPads that made transactions in the App Store on February 12, 2026. The resulting data are presented below (detailed figures are not included here).
Comparison with previous versions
- As of January 21, 2025, iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 were ranked No. 18 in terms of prevalence.
- This year Apple released statistics on iOS 26 about 150 days after its release, whereas last year data for iOS 18 were available after only 127 days – almost three weeks earlier.
Why the difference?
The exact reasons are not yet known. One hypothesis is that the new Liquid Glass interface may have disappointed some iPhone users, slowing adoption of the update. At the same time, iPadOS 26 proved to be more popular compared to its previous version.
Thus, Apple provides a transparent picture of how quickly new OS versions are adopted in the market and points out possible factors influencing their spread.
