Apple is developing four models of smart glasses with acrylic frames
Apple is developing “smart” glasses – sort of in the Ray‑Ban style, but with Apple technology
Apple is already actively testing four different frame models for its future smart glasses. According to Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman, the company intends to use premium materials while also releasing several color options.
What kind of device is it?
* It’s not an augmented reality gadget in the usual sense – it’s a wearable accessory with built‑in cameras, microphones, and sensors.
* The glasses will display notifications from a smartphone, take photos/videos, play music, and interact with an AI assistant (an enhanced Siri).
* Functionally they combine the capabilities of Apple Watch and AirPods – they work in tandem with an iPhone as an accessory.
Design
1. A large rectangular frame reminiscent of Ray‑Ban Wayfarer.
2. A compact rectangle similar to Tim Cook’s glasses.
3. Oval or round shape.
4. Another oval/round design, but more elegant and slim.
* Front cameras will be oval, surrounded by indicator LEDs – a feature Gurman believes could set Apple apart from competitors.*
The frame finish is being considered in black, blue (ocean), and light brown variants. Instead of ordinary plastic, acetate – a durable premium material – is planned.
When to expect it?
* Official announcement: end of 2026 or beginning of 2027.
* Planned release: spring/summer 2027.
Apple continues working on glasses with built‑in displays (AR glasses), but their launch has been postponed to a later date.
