Apple delays release of updated Siri

A year ago, Apple first announced a delay in the launch of a new version of its voice assistant Siri that was supposed to heavily rely on artificial intelligence technologies. Since then many have expected Siri to undergo a radical overhaul in March alongside iOS 26.4, but it has now become clear that the release will be postponed.

What sources say
Bloomberg, relying on “traditional” Apple insiders, confirmed that the new GPT‑like Siri will not appear in 26.4. Testing revealed a number of software issues, prompting the company to postpone the launch until a later iOS version.

- iOS 26.5 – first chance to see the new Siri (May).
- iOS 27 / iPadOS 27 / macOS 27 – final release event, expected in September.

At WWDC‑2026 Apple will announce a new generation of the assistant and demonstrate its capabilities. Rumor has it that the new Siri will use Google Gemini infrastructure adapted for Apple’s needs, while at the same time the company plans to develop its own data centers on ARM chips.

Technical details
During beta testing the following shortcomings were recorded:

1. Incorrect request handling – Siri sometimes fails to recognize commands if the user speaks too quickly.
2. Long wait for a response – delays in preparing answers are noticeable.
3. Dependence on OpenAI – even with its own infrastructure, Apple often redirects requests to third‑party services.

The new assistant will need to:

- Control third‑party apps by voice.
- Conduct deeper analysis of personal data (e.g., correspondence) to find relevant information.
- Work with “licensed” and synthetic content instead of real user data to strengthen privacy protection.

What’s next
Most likely, the first release of the updated Siri will occur in iOS 26.5 (May), but a full version with chatbot‑style dialogues will only appear in September alongside iOS 27. Apple continues working on improving accuracy and response speed, as well as strengthening users’ personal data protection.
