Apple presents the most extensive iPhone update in its history in 2024.
Apple is preparing a foldable iPhone — “the most significant update”
According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, the new phone will be unveiled in September 2026 alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. He called the event “the most important redesign” in the line’s history.
Key details
The device looks like a book, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 – the screen opens like a book. The internal display is 7.7″; the external one is 5.3″. The fold on the internal screen is almost invisible but does not disappear entirely thanks to new technology.
Cameras: two rear cameras and one front camera.
Biometrics: Touch ID instead of Face ID.
Multitasking: iOS 27 will add support for opening multiple apps in parallel and other features similar to those on the iPad.
Price: The starting price in the U.S. could be $1,999.
How it will work
- When unfolded, a large internal screen opens that can be used for watching videos, playing games, and working with several apps simultaneously.
- With iOS 27, users will be able to run multiple windows at once, making the foldable iPhone a more productive device.
Release timeline
- September 2026 – expected launch date alongside the Pro models.
- Analysts Tim Long and Mark Gurman note that shipments may start later than those of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Conclusion
Apple plans to bring a foldable phone to market with new design and multitasking capabilities. If all details are confirmed, it will be the biggest change in iPhone history in a long time.
