Apple will unveil a budget MacBook in bright colors in March
What the media say about the new “affordable” MacBook
1 – Facts and source
At the beginning of March, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman confirmed that Apple is preparing a new laptop based on the A18 Pro microprocessor for release. It will be announced “as part of an event” in March and will go on sale already in several unusual colors.
2 – Why A18 Pro
The past use of the A18 Pro chip in the iPhone 16 makes it the first Apple processor capable of competing with the M1. According to Gurman, the laptop will be weaker than the MacBook Air but will not become an “unattractive” product. It is important to emphasize: this is not “Apple Silicon,” but specifically the A18 Pro.
3 – Display and chassis
- Screen size – a little over 13 inches (previously they mentioned 12.9).
- Chassis – it will be made of aluminum, but without plastic. Apple is implementing a new, faster and more economical process for producing aluminum cases than the one used in the Air and Pro.
4 – Color options
They are experimenting with six shades: light yellow, light green, blue, pink, classic silver, and dark gray. Exact models have not yet been announced.
5 – Price and target audience
- Expected price – about $699, which is $300 cheaper than the current MacBook Air ($999).
- It is assumed that the laptop will suit those who need enough power for everyday tasks.
6 – Industry context
While press attention is focused on future MacBook Pros with M5 chips and OLED displays, the new affordable MacBook presents an interest as a more economical solution from Apple.
Thus, Apple is preparing a compact, colorful laptop based on the A18 Pro that promises to combine a moderate price and sufficient performance for ordinary users. The official presentation is expected in March.
