Possible solution – 2‑nm chips from Samsung
In April last year, Lisa Su visited Taiwan and saw a silicon wafer with 2‑nm crystals at TSMC intended for future EPYC‑6 (Venice, Zen 6). However, South Korean media report that AMD is already negotiating with Samsung Electronics to produce its own 2‑nm chips.

Why Samsung – a logical choice
TSMC currently cannot meet all customers’ needs, and AMD now has an alternative supplier. Even if an agreement is reached, Samsung will not be able to deliver the required quantity of products instantly, but pre‑planned cooperation will increase flexibility and scalability of AMD’s production.

The company has already allocated all available capacity for 2‑nm technology and plans to focus on more advanced processors by 2028 and beyond.

Benefits for Samsung
Besides Tesla, which will use the chips until 2033, AMD will become another major client. Production will take place in Texas, freeing AMD from waiting for supplies from South Korea.

Thus, AMD views collaboration with Samsung as a strategic step to overcome TSMC’s constraints and increase volumes of 2‑nm server processor production.
