Developers of Path of Exile 2 guarantee eternal support for the first game, but only if one condition is met
State of Path of Exile in light of the release of Path of Exile 2
Co‑founder of Grinding Gear Games (GGG), Jonathan Rogers, commented on how the approach of the second part toward its final release will affect the original game. In an interview for *Eurogamer* he emphasized that “nothing” will change: support for Path of Exile (PoE) remains a priority.
Brief history
Year Event
2013 Release of PoE on PC and console
2024 Launch of PoE 2 in early access
2026 *Expected final release of PoE 2
PoE continues to receive major updates: in March this year the *Mirage* expansion was released. At the same time PoE 2 received its most significant update during early access – “Return of the Ancients.” This event brought the second part closer to a 1.0 version, scheduled for 2026.
What Rogers says
> “Launching new PoE leagues still attracts hundreds of thousands of concurrent players, so GGG has absolutely no reason to pull support for the project.”
> “We will simply keep supporting it forever as long as there are players. As long as they’re here, there’s no reason to stop working on the game.”
Thus, PoE 2 will not replace the first part; both games will develop in parallel.
Current PoE metrics
* Platforms: PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), Mac (Steam), PS4 and Xbox One
* On Steam: 247,000 “very positive” reviews (rating 89%)
* Peak online: 229,300 players
PoE 2 – how it’s available now
Date Format
6 December 2024 Paid early access on PC (Steam, EGS, separate client), PS5, Xbox Series X/S
After early access ends, PoE 2 will become conditionally free, just like the first part.
Conclusion: According to Rogers, the release of PoE 2 will not affect support for the original game. PoE will continue to receive updates and leagues as long as it has an active audience.
