Renaming Toncoin to Gram – details and context

Pavel Durov, creator of Telegram and head of the TON project, said that the cryptocurrency running on the Telegram blockchain will be renamed from Toncoin (TON) to Gram (GRAM). The user base supported this initiative.

The blockchain itself will continue to be called TON – The Open Network. Only the token’s name and ticker will change: from TON to GRAM. All other network elements remain unchanged: addresses, smart contracts, staking mechanisms, NFTs and DeFi services will operate without changes.

On the TON Vote platform, where token holders can vote on network changes, a poll about the renaming was posted. A few days before Durov’s announcement, information about the change was removed from the voting system. The creators warn that any proposals to exchange or migrate funds from TON to GRAM are scams – the token only changes its name, no action is required from users.

Pavel Durov recalled that the idea of naming the cryptocurrency Gram existed since the project’s inception. Renaming became the fourth step in the MTONGA (Make TON Great Again) initiative.
