Macrohard – Elon Musk’s new “partner” for imitating Microsoft

For a long time the name Macrohard, coined by Elon Musk, was seen as a joke at the giant Microsoft and a symbol of his ambitions to create his own computing power. This week Musk clarified that Macrohard will be a joint project between xAI and Tesla and will allow “mimicking” the activities of companies like Microsoft by developing software with artificial intelligence.

According to a statement on X (formerly Twitter) published by Reuters, Macrohard is built around the large language model Grok, which acts as a “high‑level navigator.” In addition, Tesla has developed an AI agent that processes video in real time on a computer screen and can control the keyboard and mouse as if it were the user. Previously it was thought that Macrohard would enable programmers to “create” Microsoft‑level software solely with AI.

The trade name Macrohard was registered by the xAI startup in the United States back in August of last year, so it’s not just a Musk pun. In Musk’s statement it is emphasized that the system can emulate the functions of entire companies – hence the name, a “fun” reference to Microsoft.

The system will use Tesla AI‑4 processors together with Nvidia server hardware; this combination is considered cost‑optimal. In January Tesla invested $2 billion in xAI, and last month the company was acquired by SpaceX, also owned by Musk. The market capitalization of the new asset is estimated at about $1.25 trillion; both companies are still private. A SpaceX IPO is planned for later this year.
