Epic Games launches Epic Games Store for iPhone in Japan

The company—Epic Games—has launched its own app store on iPhone devices, available only in Japan. As a result, users of Japanese smartphones now have direct access to games such as Fortnite, Rocket League Sideswipe, and Fall Guys.

> *Important:* Fortnite is still unavailable for macOS and, according to Epic representatives, will appear only when Apple changes its policy regarding third‑party app stores on iPhone and iPad.

How it works
* The store is distributed directly from the developer, not through the App Store.
* In Japan the app is available only for iPhone; in the European Union it also supports iPad.
* The store’s general manager, Steve Allison, noted that “currently third‑party games are missing due to new commission fees and complex reporting that create barriers for studios.”

Why Japan became the first market
Apple was forced to allow alternative app stores on iPhone at the end of last year. In the country AltStore PAL already operates as a competitor to the App Store. Epic Games sees this as an opportunity for expansion and plans to enter the Brazilian market in 2026.

Fortnite’s status on macOS
* On Apple computers the game can only be run via cloud services such as Nvidia GeForce NOW and Xbox Cloud Gaming.
* Epic Games representatives stated that there are no technical reasons for the game's absence; they do not plan to bring it back until Apple implements a global policy allowing third‑party app stores on iPhone and iPad.

Summary
* The Epic Games Store is now available in Japan for iPhone.
* Fortnite remains unavailable on macOS and will return only if Apple changes its policy.
* The company has already announced plans to enter the Brazilian market in 2026, continuing to expand its presence beyond the United States.
