Chinese automakers are moving toward solid‑state batteries – Chery and its luxury brand EXEED are also in the game

Chery, owner of the EXEED brand, recently announced a new line of Rhino family batteries. These batteries use a solid electrolyte and can restore 500 km of range in just 8 minutes of charging. The first model to feature them is the EXEED ES8.

What makes Rhino special
Feature How it’s achieved
Charging speed Solid electrolyte delivers 500 km in 8 minutes
Energy density and weight Optimized materials allow more energy storage with less mass
Safety • *Rhino Crystal* material + protective structure guard against mechanical damage
• *Rhino Cloud* management system monitors battery health throughout its lifecycle via a cloud ecosystem

Rhino batteries are resilient to extreme temperatures, high salt concentrations, mechanical impacts, and even water barriers.

Family formats
1. Rhino H – for hybrid cars
2. Rhino E – for “pure” electric vehicles
3. Rhino S – fully solid‑state version

The first car to adopt the technology is the EXEED ES8. At present it is a concept car, and exact production dates have not yet been announced. However, given the rapid pace of development in the Chinese auto industry, long waits are unlikely.

What this means for consumers
Since EXEED plans to equip its premium models with solid‑state batteries, prices will be higher than those of mass-market vehicles with traditional batteries. This is typical for all cars using Rhino family technologies.
