GeForce RTX 5000 are now equipped with Micron GDDR7 chips, but the lack of memory will still remain an issue
Micron — the third GDDR7 supplier for GeForce RTX‑50
Micron announced that it will become the third manufacturer of GDDR7 memory chips for GeForce RTX 50 series graphics cards. Until now, only Samsung and SK hynix have been used as suppliers.
What has already been seen
Quasar Zone published photos of the PCB of the Galax GeForce RTX 5060 model, which features Micron chips. Inside the card are GDDR7 MT68A512M32DF chips (listed by the manufacturer as MT68A512M32DF‑28:A). These are 2‑GB memories with a bandwidth of 16 Gb/s and a data transfer rate of 28 Gb/s.
Why this matters
Adding a third supplier allows Nvidia to manage its memory supply chain more flexibly. In theory, this could ease availability issues for graphics cards, but the company has already acknowledged that GeForce shortages will persist in the coming quarters due to memory supply constraints.
What was announced earlier
Earlier reports indicated Micron’s intention to supply GDDR7 chips at 28 and 32 Gb/s speeds for RTX 50 cards. However, it was not specified which models would be the first to receive memory from the new partner.
