Gigabyte releases a budget motherboard for the new Z890 chipset

The giant computer hardware manufacturer Gigabyte has unveiled a new model – the Z890 D Plus motherboard. According to TechPowerUp, this board belongs to the “most modestly equipped” lineup on Intel’s flagship Z890 chipset and is aimed at Core Ultra 200S Plus processors.

What’s new and what’s missing
Feature Description
USB ports No USB4/Thunderbolt 4. Only one rear USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type‑C port (10 Gb/s).
Networking Only a single 2.5‑Gb controller from Realtek.
Wi‑Fi The board does not support built‑in Wi‑Fi.
Audio Realtek ALC887 codec.
Video outputs Only one full‑size DisplayPort.

Key technical specifications
- Form factor – ATX
- VRM – 15‑phase design (12 + 1 + 2) with two 8‑pin EPS connectors for CPU power
- Memory – four DDR5 DIMM slots
- PCI Express – one x16 Gen 5 slot with a simplified GPU removal mechanism, plus two additional x16 slots operating at Gen 4 x4 from the chipset
- Storage – four M.2 slots (one of them Gen 5 x4 with heatsink) and four SATA III ports
- GPU power – simplified removal mechanism on the top PCIe slot

Rear panel interfaces
- 1× USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type‑C (10 Gb/s)
- 4× SATA III
- 1× DisplayPort
- Buttons: Power, Reset, BIOS reset, USB port for firmware updates

Price and positioning
The official price has not been disclosed. However, given the limited feature set (absence of high‑speed ports, Wi‑Fi, and premium audio/video outputs), it is expected that the price will be significantly lower than typical Z890 models.

Thus, Gigabyte offers an “economical” platform for Core Ultra 200S Plus enthusiasts, ready for basic tasks without demanding data transfer or networking infrastructure.
