"Google Docs can now quickly summarize documents."
Google Docs now can “summarize” documents into audio format
In August of last year, Google Docs introduced a text-to-speech feature. Recently, a new mode was added – automatically creating short versions of documents with AI and voicing them, reports 9to5Google.
How to enable the audio summary
1. Open the desired document.
2. In the “Tools” menu select “Audio.”
3. Alongside the existing option “Listen to this tab,” a new action appears – “Listen to the document’s summary.”
After selecting it opens an audio player where you can navigate the timeline, adjust playback speed (from 0.5× to 2×), and choose a voice.
What AI does
The summary is generated using Google Gemini. The result is a “brief spoken overview of the document’s content, including several tabs.” Such a review usually takes no more than a few minutes and uses natural speech style so the user can quickly and conveniently get acquainted with the material.
Who has access to the feature
In the coming weeks, the audience will expand:
- owners of corporate and business accounts;
- subscribers to Google AI Pro (for education) and AI Ultra (for business) plans;
- as well as users of personal Google AI Pro and Ultra plans.
Thus, Google Docs now allows you not only to read documents but also to “hear” their content in a convenient audio format.
