Google updated the Home app – Gemini now better understands voice commands

Google released a new update for its Home app that boosts the effectiveness of the Gemini voice assistant in smart home control. The main improvement is enhanced natural language processing, allowing users to give commands without strict templates.

What’s new
Feature | How it looks
Lighting by description | You can ask to turn on “ocean blue” – Gemini interprets associative requests and selects the appropriate light.
Precise device tuning | The assistant now understands specific parameters: set humidity to 45 % or preheat a smart oven to 350 °F (176 °C).
Faster response | Improved device recognition eliminates confusion between “lamp” and “sconce,” speeding up command execution.
Child access | Gemini Home includes Google child accounts, where parents can control access.

Additional improvements
- Gemini Live – news summaries on smart displays and speakers have become more detailed and interactive. Users can now request, for example, “technology news” and receive an expanded answer in a dialog format.

- Within the same month, Google launched Live Search for cameras, expanding real‑time image search capabilities.

How it works
The update is already rolling out to devices. Users can simply open the Home app, go to Gemini settings, and enable the new features. With more accurate context understanding and faster device recognition, interacting with a smart home becomes more natural and convenient.
