Google makes it easier to transition to Gemini from ChatGPT and other chatbots by adding memory and chat import features.
Google Gemini now can “transfer” memory from other chatbots
The new feature allows you to import both a user’s personal data and the entire conversation history from third‑party AI chats into Google Gemini (only on PC). A similar capability was previously offered by Anthropic Claude.
How to connect memory
1. Use a Gemini prompt
Enter in your chosen chatbot (e.g., ChatGPT) the query that Gemini generates, then copy the resulting answer back into the Google Gemini interface. This helps the AI “tune” itself to your habits.
2. Export chat history
- Request an export of all conversations on the third‑party platform.
- Save the ZIP file (up to 5 GB).
- Upload it to Gemini via the “Import memory” menu on PC.
After importing, you can resume the dialogue exactly where you left off in the previous chatbot.
Managing imported data
- Deleting individual chats is available in the *Memory* section (formerly *Past chats*) in the left menu.
- Clearing ZIP files can be done from Gemini settings if they are no longer needed.
