Google promises to include "impressive features" in Android 17
Galaxy Unpacked: announcement of the future Android from Sameer Samat
At this week’s Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung not only unveiled its new products but also revealed details about what Google plans to implement in the Android operating system. Android ecosystem president Sameer Samat gave several key hints about the “amazing things” that await in the next release – Android 17.
1. Transition to an intelligent platform
Samat opened his speech by describing how Android is “turning its role: from a simple OS to a full-fledged intelligent platform.”
He emphasized that the “next chapter” aims to create a system that truly understands the user and works for them. This is a step toward evolution with AI at the core of the entire architecture.
> “We have several amazing things in the next Android release, and I’ll be happy to share more details about this in the coming months,” said Samat, hinting at Android 17, which has already been in beta testing since early February. While Google hasn’t disclosed specific innovations yet, more details are expected soon.
2. How and when new features will be announced
Traditionally, major Android update announcements are published at annual Google I/O conferences. This year the new OS version should be fully ready for the milestone, but Google may use I/O as a platform to unveil key innovations that will appear with future platform updates.
3. Gemini and expanded AI capabilities
Samat also mentioned the continued evolution of Gemini – a new AI system that will allow users to do more on their smartphones. In the near future, enhanced Gemini features will appear in Samsung Galaxy S26 and Google Pixel 10 models, with launch planned for next month.
In short:
- Android 17 is in beta testing; release expected in May.
- Sameer Samat announced “amazing” new items related to the transition to an intelligent platform and AI implementation.
- Major updates are slated for Google I/O, but details may appear earlier.
- Gemini will be integrated into Galaxy S26 and Pixel 10 next month.
