Google released and then immediately deleted the experimental AI assistant app COSMO.

The day before, a new experimental assistant from Google – COSMO – appeared in Play Market. This AI application for Android devices was removed from general availability a few days later, as reported by 9to5Google.

Who created COSMO?

Based on the app package (com.google.research.air.cosmo), it can be inferred that the development is led by the Google Research division. The project’s goal is to implement full AI functions directly on the mobile device without constant cloud connectivity.

Technical details

- Size: 1.13 GB (including the Gemini Nano model).

- On first launch, the app requests several system permissions and opens a simple chat interface.

Assistant functionality

COSMO can perform a wide range of tasks:

- Works with checklists, creates new text documents, and summarizes existing files;
- Adds events to the calendar, sets timers, and manages the browser;
- Conducts in-depth research, quickly searches for photos, and performs Google searches;
- Explains terms, offers advice, generates ideas;
- Helps “understand” people and events by context, and “recall” important details;
- Creates conversation summaries when the topic changes.

AI operation settings

In the settings you can choose one of three modes:

1. Local – the model runs entirely on the device;
2. Cloud – requests are processed by external servers;
3. Hybrid – combines both approaches.
