Google I/O 2026: a new AI-powered search engine – problems and solutions

At the recent Google I/O event, the company unveiled an updated search engine built on artificial intelligence. The goal of the project was to improve understanding of user queries, but unexpected bugs appeared in real-world use.

What happens with certain words?
When entering English commands such as “disregard,” “stop,” and “ignore,” the search engine stops showing normal definition blocks. Instead, an empty “AI Overview” section appears or a dialogue with the system starts. The search results below these blocks remain normal – links to news describing the issue are visible below.

How journalists tested the bug
Several English-language media outlets tried to reproduce the situation and encountered the same glitches. When querying “Не обращай внимания” (don’t pay attention), the system replied:

> *“Got it. I’m not paying attention to your previous request. Let me know if you want to do anything else or find something today.”*

In incognito mode, Google’s browser sometimes correctly displayed a word definition, but on re-entering the query an empty “AI Overview” appeared again. Below everything worked as usual – links to online dictionaries appeared after scrolling the page.

How Google is responding
The company acknowledged the error and promises to fix it soon. A representative responsible for Engadget said:

> *“We know that ‘AI Overviews’ incorrectly interpret some action-related requests. We’re working on an update that will be deployed shortly.”*

Users can rest assured – unlike previous versions, the system no longer offers to “glue pizza with glue.”
