Meta launches a test feature called “Series” for Reels

*Meta (Instagram and Facebook) is experimenting with a new capability that will allow creators to bundle their short videos into logically connected sets—“series.” This is a step toward deeper audience engagement and building the habit of watching content sequentially.*

What are “Series”?

- Episode creation
Selected users can gather both new and already published Reels into one series. Each clip becomes an individual “episode,” and the entire collection appears in a special section on the profile.

- User experience
In the feed or on the Reels tab, a button to view the full series appears, where viewers see all episodes in the order they were posted. A series can be saved for later viewing and resumed from where you left off.

Why Meta is doing this

- Shift from scrolling to watching
Short videos are usually skimmed quickly. Organizing content into series aims to hold a viewer’s attention longer and establish lasting viewing habits.

- Convenience for creators
Authors get a structure for releasing educational courses, challenges, or any other episodic topic. This simplifies planning and publishing content.

Monetization and competition

- Meta has not yet disclosed a specific monetization mechanism for “Series,” but it is already observing the rise in popularity of serialized video.
- In 2023, TikTok launched a similar feature that allows publishing premium content with paid access. Meta may follow suit in the future.

How it looks in practice
Suppose a creator releases a series called “10 Days of Healthy Baking.”

They bundle all 10 Reels into one collection. A new tab appears on the profile titled after the series, where viewers can watch videos in order or jump to the next episode without extra clicks.

Bottom line: Meta is testing “Series” for Reels as a way to boost audience engagement and give creators a more structured publishing format. How it will be monetized remains unknown, but competitors are already showing potential paths forward.
