New story about “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” – how modders uncovered the cut storyline

*CD Projekt Red* created one of the deepest RPG‑action games, but even in such a rich world the game still has mysteries. Recently a team of modders revived part of the content that was removed from the original version – this is what allowed us to see how the story of the Hearts of Stone expansion could have unfolded.

What happened in Hearts of Stone
In the official storyline Geralt finds himself bound by oath to the mysterious enchanter Günther O’Dim. O’Dim wants to claim the soul of his debtor, Olgerd von Everek, and uses the witcher as a tool.

But the mod Brothers in Arms added a new branch: if the Hero cannot find a way to change the contract, then his friend Shani – a character from the expansion whose fate usually goes unnoticed – will be in danger. O’Dim can kill her with a lightning strike after the final showdown with von Everek.

How the modders restored the scenes
Bulgarian blogger xLetalis, known for finding hidden moments in *Witcher 3*, explained that most of the scenes are based on official voice‑overs found in the game’s file structure. Everything else is creative work from the mod creators: new dialogues and a script written from scratch.

Community reaction
In the comments to xLetalis’ video, users were stunned by the detail of the modders’ work and how bleak Shani’s fate can be. One viewer, known under the pseudonym kratos-xz, noted:

> “Damn, it’s both amazing and terrifying at the same time.”

Where to play
*The Witcher 3* is available on PC (Steam, EGS, GOG), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. Since its release in May 2015, the game has received two official expansions: Hearts of Stone (2015) and Blood and Wine (2016). Rumors say CD Projekt Red is already working on a third DLC.
