Intel unexpectedly launched the desktop processors Core Ultra 200S Plus: more cores, faster memory, and lower cost
Intel — new desktop processors Arrow Lake Refresh
Intel unexpectedly announced the release of an updated lineup of desktop chips from the Arrow Lake Refresh family under the Core Ultra 200S Plus brand.
The new models promise more efficient power usage, a faster memory controller, and a range of architectural improvements compared to current Arrow Lake. According to Intel, in games they can boost performance by up to 15 %.
What’s included in the Core Ultra 200S Plus lineup
Model | Cores (P/E) | Max Frequency | Overclocking Capability
Core Ultra 7 270K Plus | 8 P / 16 E (24 cores) | 5.5 GHz | Yes (up to 200 MHz from flagship)
Core Ultra 5 250K Plus | 6 P / 12 E (18 cores) | 5.3 GHz | Yes (automatic overclocking)
*All processors have an unlocked multiplier.*
Lower‑tier models are available without integrated graphics: Core Ultra 7 270KF Plus and Core Ultra 5 250KF Plus.
Technological features
1. Chiplet architecture (tile‑design) with Intel Foveros packaging:
* Compute chiplet — TSMC N3B.
* SoC tile (memory, PCIe, other blocks) — TSMC N6.
2. Accelerated inter‑die connection:
The bus now runs at 900 MHz, reducing memory access latency – a critical point in Arrow Lake – and boosting gaming performance.
3. Intel Binary Optimization Tool (iBOT):
* Binary code optimization layer.
* Increases IPC even for games previously optimized for another architecture.
* Available in the expanded Intel Application Optimization mode.
Performance tests
Model | Avg. gain over predecessor | Note
Core Ultra 7 270K Plus | +15 % | In Shadow of the Tomb Raider up to 39 %, in Hitman 3 – 22 % (with iBOT).
Core Ultra 5 250K Plus | +13 % | Borderlands 3 up to 20 %, Far Cry 6 up to 24 %.
Memory support
* DDR5 without overclocking: 7200 MT/s.
* With Boost BIOS profile: 8000 MT/s.
* Early support for 4R CUDIMM modules (up to 128 GB per module) – increases maximum RAM capacity in consumer systems.
Pricing and availability
Model | Price
Core Ultra 5 250K Plus | $199
Core Ultra 7 270K Plus | $299
Prices are significantly lower than the starting prices of previous models, allowing Intel to compete seriously with AMD Ryzen 9000.
Launch date
Core Ultra 200S Plus processors will go on sale on March 26.
