Intel's stock price rose by almost 25%, propelling the market, and now Nvidia's valuation has reached $5 trillion.
Brief on events
What happened
Intel market after the quarterly report
Shares rose 23.6 % in the last U.S. session; the peak reached at the start of the dot‑com bubble was surpassed.
State of Intel’s government shares
In August last year the U.S. government bought a block of Intel shares. This week its market value was $36 m; selling now would fetch $27 m.
Impact of AI
Growing demand for server processors linked to artificial intelligence restored Intel’s position after a period of capital spending and competition.
Market reaction
AMD shares rose 14 %; Arm – 12 %. The semiconductor index SOX climbed 3.2 % to a new all‑time high. Nvidia increased its market cap by only 4.3 %, but already surpassed $5 trn.
What happened to Intel
After the quarterly report, Intel shares grew more than a quarter of their price: 23.6 %. At the peak their value rose another 25 %, surpassing the maximum reached at the start of the century during the dot‑com bubble.
Bloomberg noted an interesting fact: the block of Intel shares bought by the U.S. government in August last year is now valued at $36 bn. If authorities sold them now, they would receive about $27 m. At the time of purchase the company was in a difficult position – exiting the crisis required large investments and positions were lost under competitor pressure. The turning point came thanks to the rapid growth of artificial intelligence: Intel customers began mass‑buying their processors to expand server infrastructure.
The 24 % price increase in one session even eclipsed the 1987 record and set a new maximum of $82.54 per share. After the report, Donald Trump said: “We were the chip capital of the world, and now Intel is coming back. All chip‑making companies are returning.”
How it affected competitors
- AMD – shares rose 14 %. D.A. Davidson representatives noted that AMD processors became in demand in the AI segment: “The sleepy CPU market is now moving up.”
- Arm – growth of 12 % on the U.S. stock market.
- The semiconductor index SOX rose 3.2 %, reaching a new all‑time high.
Nvidia and future plans
Nvidia, which had previously grown faster than competitors during the AI boom, recorded only a 4.3 % increase in market cap. Nevertheless this allowed the company to surpass the $5 trn mark. Understanding trends in the AI component market, Nvidia accelerated development of central processors and related solutions.
In short: Intel has once again entered investors’ focus thanks to rising demand for AI processors, and competitors – AMD, Arm, and Nvidia – also received a noticeable boost. The semiconductor sector continues to show growth dynamics, confirming the importance of artificial intelligence technologies for the future market.
