Buffalo stops producing external Blu‑ray drives

The popularity of the Blu‑ray format is gradually declining, and a return to previous levels of demand is no longer expected. Japanese peripheral manufacturer Buffalo, known for its networking solutions, USB hubs, and external storage devices, announced in July that it would cease production of the three remaining Blu‑ray drive models.

What this means for consumers
* After production stops, no new models will appear – the company officially stated that “there will be no successors.”

* The three discontinued units have the following model numbers:

* BRXLPT6U3E

* BRXLPTV63B

* BRXLPTWOU3

All are external drives that connect via USB. They can read and write Blu‑ray, DVD, and CD discs.

Features of the BRXLPTWOU3 model
* This model is especially “Japanese” in its approach: it is designed to comply with the Electronic Accounting Law.

* The law previously required storing reports on floppy disks or optical media.

* The product page states that the drive supports “write protection” and blocks unauthorized data access.

Industry context
Buffalo is not the first manufacturer to discontinue Blu‑ray drives. LG and Sony have also announced the end of production for their models.

External USB drives remain the most convenient way to work with Blu‑ray discs for collection owners: most modern computers no longer come equipped with internal laser drives, so connecting an external device via USB is the preferred solution.
