Microsoft launches Copilot Cowork – a new AI tool from Anthropic

Microsoft announced the start of integrating Anthropic’s technologies into its services. As its first product, the company introduced Copilot Cowork, based on the Claude Cowork model. The tool enables running autonomous AI agents that perform complex tasks: from app development to creating spreadsheets and structuring large data sets with minimal human intervention.

How Copilot Cowork Works
- Cloud environment – the agent operates in the cloud on behalf of the user. This gives full control over what information the AI can access.

- Key difference from Claude Cowork – the latter runs exclusively on a local device. According to Microsoft’s AI‑at‑Work division head Jared Spataro, most companies feel “very uncomfortable” about security when using local solutions.

Expanding the Technology Stack
Microsoft has now opened access to the latest Claude Sonnet models through the M365 Copilot service. Previously, the company relied only on OpenAI’s GPT models, Reuters reports. This is a step toward diversifying AI stacks within Microsoft’s ecosystem.

Market Impact
The launch of Copilot Cowork came just weeks after Anthropic’s new tools caused traditional software companies’ stocks to fall. Investors feared that autonomous AI agents could weaken the positions of classic products. In February, Microsoft’s shares dropped almost 9%.

Current Status and Pricing
- Testing – Copilot Cowork is in a pilot phase.

- Early access – planned for release this month.

- Cost – Microsoft has not yet disclosed an exact price but clarified that part of the functionality will be included in the M365 Copilot subscription at $30 per user per month. Additional usage volume can be purchased separately.

Thus, Microsoft expands its capabilities in autonomous AI agents while simultaneously enhancing flexibility and security for corporate clients.
