Microsoft Moves Build to San Francisco
* When and where?
- The developer conference will take place on June 2–3, not in the usual May.
- The venue is Fort Mason (a former U.S. military base) in the San Francisco bays.
* Why here?
- The company wants to “immerse” itself in the vibrant AI atmosphere surrounding the city.
- It aims to create a more intimate space where participants can truly connect.
* New formats and scale
- Organizers are looking for a “golden mean”: a large enough format for presentations, yet maintaining a personal touch.
- GitHub’s chief operating officer Kyle Deagle highlighted the importance of interaction among attendees as part of the conference itself.
* Number of participants
- Last year Build accommodated between 3,000 and 5,000 people, but this year Microsoft will limit the audience to 2,500 developers.
- According to Deagle, a smaller number allows better consideration of those who really show up: attendees can attend the main presentation, walk around the hall, try demo samples, and establish closer contacts with one another.
Thus, Microsoft is making Build more compact while still rich in content and opportunities for knowledge exchange at the heart of San Francisco’s tech activity.
