Microsoft is delaying the mandatory transition to the new Outlook due to incomplete platform readiness
Microsoft has postponed the forced migration of corporate clients to the new Outlook
According to recent statements from Microsoft, the company has changed the schedule for the mandatory upgrade of the business mail client.
- Original plan: in April 2026 all corporate customers were supposed to switch to the new version of Outlook.
- Current position: the transition will now only be required by March 2027.
This decision could indicate two things: either Microsoft is not confident that the new client is fully ready, or it understands that the business segment prefers a softer approach.
What this means for users
| Parameter | Corporate clients (Microsoft 365) | End users |
|---|---|---|
| Access to legacy Outlook | Remains until April 2029 | Until 2026 – access closed, but migration possible later |
| Ability to decline immediate migration | Yes (migration only in 2027) | No – the new version becomes mandatory |
Pros and cons of the old client
- Advantages: smoother operation, faster response, more features.
- Disadvantages: official support will end in April 2029.
Thus Microsoft is gradually encouraging users to move to the new Outlook while still leaving a temporary window for those who are not ready to change their established workflow right away.
