Microsoft is preparing the release of the Surface Laptop 8 for the general public

In mid‑June, Microsoft plans to unveil a new line of Surface Laptop 8 notebooks aimed at everyday consumers rather than the corporate segment. The new models will be available in two screen sizes—13.8 and 15 inches.

What’s new?
* Processors

The laptops will run on Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 chips:

* 12‑core X2 Elite X2E‑78‑100 or

* 10‑core X2 Plus X2P‑64‑100.

Both processors support up to 4 GHz in Turbo Boost mode and allow up to 32 GB of RAM.

* Display

The displays will be PixelSense touch panels, possibly the first version with an OLED panel. Colors: classic gold, silver, black, and a new light‑green “jade” variant.

* Memory and storage

Built‑in storage ranges from 512 GB to 2 TB (the higher‑end models can be upgraded independently).

* Power

* 13.8‑inch laptop – 54 Wh battery, providing up to 20 hours of video playback.

* 15‑inch model – 66 Wh battery, about 19 hours of life.

* AI performance

Snapdragon X2 chips feature NPUs that can reach up to 80 TOPS on AI tasks.

What stays the same and what changes
* The laptop design will not be updated compared to previous models.

* Consumer versions will lack the privacy screen feature available in business editions.

* Prices are expected to rise – Microsoft plans to pass part of the cost of new chips and memory onto buyers.

Release date
The new Surface Laptop 8 will go on sale on June 16.
