Firefox 148: New Ability to Disable AI Features
The Firefox browser continues to be popular among advanced users who remain critically skeptical of developers’ ideas about implementing generative artificial intelligence. In response to their demands, Mozilla added an option for full blocking of AI enhancements in the latest version of the browser.
What Changed

How to Disable AI
1. Open Settings → AI Controls section on the left sidebar.
2. Turn on the “Block AI Enhancements” switch.
3. If desired, you can enable only the features you need, leaving the rest disabled.
If new AI features appear in the future, they will also be disabled by default when the blocking option is activated.

* Chatbots: Anthropic Claude, OpenAI ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and Mistral Le Chat.
* Translation with AI.
* Generation of alternative text for images in PDFs.
* Tab grouping using AI.
* Brief summaries when previewing links.
Additional Improvements
* Support for screen readers when working with mathematical formulas in PDFs.
* Disabled remote retrieval of optional features without telemetry collection.
* Added support for Traditional Chinese and Vietnamese languages in the translation system.
* Fixed several known bugs, improved browser security.
Thus, Firefox 148 provides users with flexibility to manage AI features while maintaining full control over which ones are activated.
