MSI launches new power supplies with improved protection against GPU overheating

12 VHPWR (and later – 12 V‑2×6) connectors have become known for their tendency to overheat and even catch fire. To address this issue, MSI introduced two new power supplies that use an updated version of the GPU Safeguard+ technology.

What’s new in the MSI MPG Ai 1600TS PCIE5 and MPG Ai1300TS PCIE5 units
- Upgraded protection. GPU Safeguard+ monitors the current supplied to the graphics card. In case of overheating or a power issue, the user receives a warning: a hardware beep from the power supply and a pop‑up window in the system.

- Intelligent bridge. The technology works through data exchange between the graphics card and MSI Afterburner, creating a “bridge” to the power supply. When a dangerous situation is detected, the system instantly reduces power consumption and displays a warning.

- Support for the most powerful cards. Both units can provide sufficient power even for builds with an Nvidia RTX 5090, and the technology works independently of the card manufacturer – it only requires a 12 V‑2×6 connector.

How to avoid problems
Overheating of connectors is often related not to the power supply itself but to incorrect connection. Before first use, make sure the plug is fully inserted into the socket and securely fastened.

What’s next?
We hope to see GPU Safeguard+ appear in more affordable PSU models. This solution will be useful for all users who want to ensure reliable operation of their computer without risking graphics card overheating.
