Nano Banana unexpectedly appeared in Google Maps, now AI can decorate places of residence.
Google “tries” image generation directly in Maps
According to Android Authority data, Google developers are testing a new feature that generates street and location images directly within the Google Maps app. The function uses the Gemini AI bot and the Nano Banana model.
How it works?
- In the APK file version 26.09.00.873668274, code sections indicate integration of the generative Nano Banana model.
- The model can transform ordinary street photos into various artistic styles, creating a “new” visual interpretation of familiar places.
What’s already available to users?
- Currently, the functionality appears as a set of ready-made presets similar to those in Google Photos.
- There is no confirmation that arbitrary text prompts for more detailed customization are possible; most likely, users will only be able to choose one of the preset filters.
What next?
- The feature is mentioned only in the server side of the test build. This does not guarantee its appearance in a public release soon.
- Official launch and availability to the wider audience remain unknown at this time.
