Elon Musk changes his position on the lawsuit against OpenAI a few weeks before trial

In 2024 Elon Musk sued OpenAI and Microsoft, claiming that the former had strayed from its original mission as a research center after receiving billions in investment from Microsoft. He is seeking compensation ranging from $79 billion to $134 million, calling it the company’s “illegal profit” since its founding in 2015.

The court hearing for this lawsuit is scheduled for April 27. OpenAI and Microsoft deny any wrongdoing.

New demands from Musk

Recently Musk’s attorneys announced that all sums he could receive as a result of litigation should be transferred not to him personally but directly to the company OpenAI. He asks the court to reverse the organization’s restructuring and take oversight over its financing and deals to ensure a return to the original mission. Additionally, Musk demands the removal of Sam Altman (CEO) and other board members.

OpenAI’s response

According to representatives of OpenAI, the latest changes in the lawsuit are “completely unfounded” and not supported by facts. The company’s lawyers noted that Musk now requires new evidence and witnesses different from those used just three days ago.

Thus, a few weeks before the trial began, Elon Musk suddenly revised his demands, creating a “trap” legally. OpenAI stated that these new claims lack legal basis and do not reflect reality.
