Robots will patrol a Mexican stadium during the FIFA World Cup.
Mexico City Guadalajara is implementing robot dogs in the security system of the BBVA stadium
In preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup matches, the city authorities of Guadalajara presented four new robotic “dogs” K9‑X at a press conference. These devices will become part of a comprehensive security system for the BBVA stadium, one of the three venues hosting the tournament in the country.
What do the robots do?
* Rapid response – the K9‑X unit is designed for swift intervention in case of threat.
* Equipment – video cameras, infrared sensors and communication systems allow data collection and remote transmission.
* Security functions
* Prevention of unlawful actions.
* Detection of suspicious behavior and objects.
* Crowd control and police notification when necessary.
The robots operate in a semi‑autonomous mode: they do not make decisions on their own and do not move without external control. An operator, similar to controlling a drone or virtual character, directs their movement and actions.
How this helps the police
Mayor Ector García explained that the robot dogs will support law enforcement at the onset of an incident by providing video footage and penetrating high‑risk zones before security forces arrive. In case of confrontation or a drunken person, staff can use them to ensure physical safety.
Pilot launch
The K9‑X squad already passed trials during the last match of Monterrey from the continental league, where they patrolled the BBVA stadium. This is the first practical example of using robots at sporting events.
What else will be used
At the BBVA stadium, modern drones and their countermeasures will also be deployed simultaneously. Exact data on the model, manufacturer, and technical specifications of the K9‑X are not yet disclosed.
Match announcements for BBVA
* Group stage – three matches
* Round of 16 – one additional match
Thus, the BBVA stadium is preparing for multifunctional security using both traditional means and advanced robotic technologies.
