Samsung computers lost access to drive C due to a Windows 11 update
What’s happening with Windows 11 and the C drive
New Windows 11 users have noticed odd behavior: when they try to open the system C drive a message appears
“C:\ is inaccessible — Access denied.” The same thing happens when launching Office applications, browsers, or even some built‑in utilities.
Who it affects
The issue does not affect everyone; it’s limited to specific Samsung devices.
- Galaxy Book 4 laptops
- Samsung desktops
It should be noted that the bug appears only on Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 versions.
How it looks in action
When the drive is blocked users may encounter:
- inability to open files on the C drive;
- difficulty elevating administrator privileges;
- problems uninstalling updates;
- lack of access to system logs.
What companies Microsoft and Samsung are doing
Microsoft and Samsung are already working on a fix. As a temporary measure, the Galaxy Connect app was removed from the Microsoft Store, and Samsung released an older, stable version to prevent further spread of the issue. A patch that fully removes the C‑drive block is expected soon.
So if you own a Galaxy Book 4 laptop or a Samsung desktop and have seen the “Access denied” error when working with the C drive on Windows 11, keep the Galaxy Connect app updated (or roll back to the older version) and watch for official patches from Microsoft and Samsung.
