Seagate is releasing a new line of SSDs, the FireCuda X1070 PCIe 4.0, with read speeds exceeding 7 GB/s
Seagate is preparing a new line of PCIe 4.0 SSDs
The company Seagate announced the development of a series of FireCuda X1070 solid‑state drives, which will be available in capacities of 1, 2 and 4 TB. Even before the official release, Western retail sites Amazon and Best Buy listed the 4 TB model at $829.99.
| Specification | 1 TB | 2 TB | 4 TB |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sequential read | 7200 MB/s | 7200 MB/s | 7200 MB/s |
| Sequential write | 6000 MB/s | 6500 MB/s | 6500 MB/s |
| Random read (IOPS) | up to 900 000 | up to 900 000 | up to 900 000 |
| Random write (IOPS) | 1 000 000 | 1 000 000 | 1 000 000 |
Seagate guarantees a five‑year warranty and three years of free data recovery service through Rescue Data Recovery Services for the entire lineup.
What experts say
Tom’s Hardware notes that the X1070 falls short of the current FireCuda 530R in several key areas:
- All three variants have lower read and write speeds.
- The rewrite endurance (TBW) for the 4 TB model is 2400 TBW versus 5100 TBW on the FireCuda 530R.
The difference is likely due to the type of NAND memory. Amazon states that the X1070 uses 3D QLC, yet its performance is closer to TLC‑based drives. In prolonged sequential writes, QLC typically loses speed after exhausting the SLC cache, which explains the lower TBW figures. Official data on the controller and specific NAND chips have not been disclosed.
Certification and bonuses
- Certification: X1070 NVMe is certified for portable consoles ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X.
- Package: Includes a trial subscription to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (1 month) and Adobe Creative Cloud Pro (2 months).
Context
Seagate did not release new consumer SSDs in 2025, so the X1070 will be the company’s first launch on the consumer market in more than a year. This makes the announcement particularly noticeable for those following solid‑state drive developments.
