SmartSens released the 1-inch 50MP sensor SC5A6XS, designed for Huawei flagships and other brands.
Chinese manufacturer SmartSens launches a new sensor for flagship smartphones
SmartSens has unveiled its latest image sensor – the SC5A6XS, designed for high-end devices. The 1‑inch format sensor with a resolution of 50 MP is intended for shooting with extended dynamic range (HDR) and for operation in low-light conditions.
Technical features
Parameter Value
Format 1 inch
Resolution 50 MP
Processor node 22 nm
HDR technology Lofic HDR 3.0
Dynamic range 115 dB
Pixel size 1.6 µm (SFCPixel)
Video modes 4K@120fps (standard), 4K@60fps (in HDR)
The sensor employs a multi‑frame HDR scheme: several exposures are merged into one capture, reducing motion blur of moving objects and the camera. Thanks to SFCPixel technology each pixel is light‑sensitive, and Lofic HDR 3.0 expands brightness range while preserving detail in both shadows and highlights.
Autofocus and power consumption
The SC5A6XS features full‑pixel autofocus AllPix ADAF with partial phase detection. This provides fast and accurate focusing even in low light. The manufacturer reduced power consumption by 11 % in HDR mode, decreasing device heating during extended video recording.
Current status
The sensor is undergoing final testing; serial production is planned for the beginning of Q2 2026. It is expected to appear in new flagship Huawei models, such as the Pura 90, where SmartSens sensors (Pura 80) were previously used.
Thus, the SC5A6XS combines high resolution, extended dynamic range, and energy efficiency, making it an attractive choice for premium smartphone manufacturers.
