The British division of PlayStation has announced a new service – you can rent a Sony PlayStation 5 console instead of buying it. The subscription cost starts at £9.95 per month, but varies depending on the chosen model and lease term.

Other versions are also available – PS‑5 Pro, and you can add DualSense Edge, PlayStation VR2 or PlayStation Portal to the rental if desired.

“No commitment” option
Users can choose a subscription that can be cancelled at any time: the fee is £19.49 per month. The console is returned if you decide to end the lease.

How much does it cost?
- 36‑month option – just £358.20 (≈ £9.95×36).
- 24‑month plan – £251.76.
- 12‑month option – £175.08.

After the lease period ends you can:

1. Return the console and end the subscription;
2. Upgrade to a new model, return the old one, and continue using the service.

Gaming device rentals are on the rise
Recently HP announced the launch of its Omen gaming laptop rental program: prices range from $49.99 to $129.99 per month, depending on configuration. It’s still hard to gauge the effectiveness of this model, but given rising costs for memory and graphics cards, it could prove popular.
