Sony will raise prices for the PS5, PS5 Pro and PlayStation Portal in the near future, which will lead to a sharp increase in costs worldwide
Sony raises prices for PlayStation 5 worldwide
In response to ongoing economic pressure, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced an official price increase for all models of the PlayStation 5 console and the portable device Portal, effective April 2.
Model Current Price New Price
PS 5 (base) $550 $650
PS 5 Digital Edition $500 $600
PS 5 Pro $750 $900
PlayStation Portal $200 $250
Sony explains the decision by saying that the price hike is necessary to maintain game quality and further develop the platform. In an official statement it said: “We understand how this will affect our community, but after careful analysis we have concluded that this step is essential for continuing to release high‑quality games worldwide.”
This isn’t the first price change. In August 2022, the PS 5 price rose from $500 to $550 in all regions except the U.S.; in the following August Sony increased the console’s cost on the American market as well.
Sony is not the only player adjusting prices. Microsoft has already raised the price of its Xbox consoles twice in 2025: Series X now costs $650 (an additional $150 from the original launch), and Series S — $400 (an extra $100).
