Claims about the closure of the Watch Dogs series are a myth

Rumors circulated online that Ubisoft’s “Watch Dogs” franchise had officially ended. That turned out to be an exaggeration: insider Tom Henderson reported that work is underway on a new release.

How did they learn about the plans?

Henderson discussed this in a recent episode of *Insider Gaming Weekly*. He noted that Ubisoft is returning to the series after the release of “Watch Dogs: Legion” in 2020.

What exactly is being developed?

According to him, the company is preparing an expanded version of “Legion.” It will be a sort of remaster with a director’s cut and additional content. Henderson added:

> “I don’t know why they’re doing this… The director’s edition will have some new material. I heard they might make a fully night-time version of the game or something like that.”

Possible connection to a film

The new release could be synchronized with the premieres of a franchise film by director Mathieu Turi. Filming wrapped in the fall of 2024.

Briefly about “Legion”

The game is set in near‑future London. The hacker group DedSec attempts to regain control of the city by recruiting ordinary residents into its ranks.

“Watch Dogs: Legion” was released on PC (Steam, EGS, Ubisoft Connect), PS4/PS5 and Xbox One/Series X|S. Although exact sales figures were not disclosed, many believe that Ubisoft remained dissatisfied with the commercial results.

Thus, news about the series’ closure is false: work on new projects continues.
