Starfield will appear on the PS5 in a non-functional version, but Bethesda guarantees a full fix of the issue.
Starfield on PS5: Issues and Developer Response
After the long‑awaited release of the space RPG Star Field on PlayStation 5, players encountered a host of technical glitches. Bethesda Game Studios officially responded to the situation for the first time.
What Happened
- Game Availability
In early April Starfield appeared on PS5, but only more than two years after its initial release on PC and Xbox Series X/S. Alongside the game came a major “Free Lanes” update and the story DLC “Terran Armada”.
- User Problems
On both console versions (PS5 and PS5 Pro) players complained about:
- frequent freezes;
- game crashes;
- save failures.
Some users even called the port “unplayable” and demanded a refund from Sony.
Bethesda’s Response
In a microblog, developers confirmed that they are hearing reports of crash issues on PS5 and have already narrowed down potential causes to a few possibilities.
> “We’re going to fix these crashes in a patch we plan to release by the end of this week. Thank you for reporting the bugs. We’ll keep you posted.” – said the Bethesda Game Studios team.
Release Context
- Initial Launch
Starfield launched on PC (Steam, Microsoft Store) and Xbox Series X/S in September 2023, and also became available via Game Pass subscription.
- Popularity
Over the weekend last week, online users on Steam exceeded 30 thousand people – the best figure since launch.
Future of the Project
Composer Inon Zur previously said that Starfield “will become something legendary.” Bethesda intends to support the game long‑term, so the project has time and resources to fix current issues.
