NHTSA recalls 14 575 Tesla Model Y for missing certification sticker

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced a recall of nearly fifteen thousand Tesla Model Y electric vehicles. The reason is the absence of an required certification sticker, which cannot be fixed by updating software.

What’s missing
- Production date sticker
- Maximum permissible vehicle weight
- Recommended tire pressure

This information is normally posted on the inside of the door or the driver-side side sill. While most owners do not notice it, it is critical for correctly calculating load and maintaining safe tire pressure.

How it happened
- Production period: November 17 2024 – April 21 2026
- About 45 % of recalled cars actually did not receive a sticker.
- Tesla has already fixed the automatic scanner that allowed cars to be released without one, and now plant workers manually check for the sticker.

What owners need to do
1. Bring the Model Y to a service center – only there can the presence of the sticker be verified.
2. If it’s missing, the factory will add the required information manually.

Why this matters
- The absence of the sticker is not related to the risk of wheel detachment, but without it it is impossible to accurately assess load and tire pressure, which can affect vehicle safety.
