The U.S. court stripped Perplexity AI agents of the right to make purchases on Amazon

As a result of litigation in a county court (Judge Maxine Chesni), a ruling was issued that limits the activity of Perplexity’s artificial intelligence on the Amazon platform.

What happened
- Lawsuit by Amazon

In November last year, the marketplace sued the creators of the neural network Perplexity, accusing them of violating computer fraud laws. Before filing suit, the company tried to force developers to disable the automatic purchasing feature without success.

- Evidence of unauthorized access

The court found that the Comet browser used by Perplexity accesses Amazon user accounts without the platform’s permission. Additionally, the company attempted to conceal its activity by spoofing the browser identifier as Google Chrome.

What now
- Purchase ban

Perplexity must shut its agents’ access to the Amazon service and immediately delete all previously collected data. The ban will take effect seven days after the court decision unless the company appeals.

- Party statements

*Perplexity* – spokesperson Jesse Duwayer said the startup would continue fighting for AI users’ freedom of choice online.

*Amazon* – Lara Henderson emphasized that the company will protect its interests and prevent further unauthorized access by Perplexity to its store.

Thus, the court’s decision limits the ability of artificial intelligence to make purchases on behalf of Amazon users and underscores the importance of complying with data‑access rules.
