The free version of Gemini now has a "Past Chats" feature.
Global rollout of “Past Chats” in Gemini
Google has begun deploying the *Past Chats* feature for all users of the free version of the Gemini app. The neural network now automatically scans the history of previous conversations and uses it as context when generating new responses. Previously, this capability was available only to subscribers of Google AI’s paid service.
How the system works
- The neural network learns on its own from user preferences, creating more personalized answers without needing manual reminders about details from past discussions.
- If a user has already discussed a particular topic, they can start a new chat on the same subject – the algorithm will automatically pull all relevant information from previous dialogues.
- If desired, one can ask the AI: “Did you use data from past chats when forming this answer?”
Geographic availability
The update is available worldwide, but in EU countries it will appear with a slight delay.
Managing the feature
- In the app open Settings → Personal Context.
- The toggle “Your past chats with Gemini” can be turned on or off here.
- Below is a section with instructions that allow further customization of the AI’s style and format.
Future plans
Google intends to expand free users’ capabilities by adding the *Personal Intelligence* feature. It will integrate with Gmail, Google Photos, and other company services, providing even deeper personalization of responses.
