Apple Chooses Samsung Display and LG Display for New iPhone 18 Pro

According to information from The Elec, the iPhone manufacturer Apple announced that the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models will use LTPO+ OLED panels from two suppliers: Samsung Display and LG Display. These panels feature higher energy efficiency and support for variable refresh rate. In previous models – iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro – standard LTPO OLED panels were used.

What’s new in LTPO+?
Unlike standard LTPO, LTPO+ panels use a wider range of oxides in TFT transistors. This allows more precise control of the current supplied to the OLED layer, thereby optimizing power consumption without sacrificing image quality.

Why BOE is not involved
BOE, which supplied OLED panels for some iPhone 17 models, is not included among suppliers for the iPhone 18 Pro. Sources say the company cannot produce LTPO+ panels at the volumes and quality required by Apple.

Expansion of Samsung Display’s Capacity
According to SamMobile data, Samsung Display expanded its production capacity by 10–15 % compared with the first half of 2025. This increase likely played a key role in securing a large order from Apple.

Assessment of Supply Volumes
Research firm UBI Research estimates that Samsung Display could supply Apple about 146 million OLED panels, LG Display – more than 82.24 million, and BOE – roughly 35 million. BOE will continue to supply panels for older or budget iPhone models.

Conclusion
The gap in supply volumes between South Korean display manufacturers and BOE has noticeably widened since Apple began using LTPO panels even in base iPhone 17 models. This underscores the company’s growing reliance on high‑technology OLED suppliers.
