The owner of Arc Raiders has started working on a large-scale shooter inspired by StarCraft
Nexon, a South Korean publisher and developer (The Finals, Arc Raiders), announced work on a new game set in the StarCraft universe
What’s happening
- A new game from Nexon
According to the major Korean business newspaper *The Korea Economic Daily*, the company is developing a project based on the StarCraft universe. It is expected to be a shooter.
- The license
Last year Nexon obtained the rights to release games in the StarCraft world after a successful contest against NCSoft, Netmarble and Krafton.
- The department handling the project
Development is led by the *Shooting Division* – a Nexon unit specializing in shooters. According to them, the game should “shake the international video‑game market”.
- Project lead
The head is modder Choi Jun‑ho (Chhwe Joon‑ho), known as the creator of the popular StarCraft map *Temple Smashing*.
Context and comparison
- Blizzard and StarCraft shooters
Blizzard has tried several times to bring the StarCraft universe into a shooter format:
1. *StarCraft Ghost* – the first attempt, which failed.
2. *Ares* – the second unsuccessful attempt.
3. The third version is still under discussion.
- Connection to Nexon’s project
It is unclear whether Blizzard’s incubator action film and Nexon’s new shooter are the same project or two separate initiatives.
