The taskbar in Windows 11 will finally be movable, just like in Windows 10
Microsoft Reintroduces Taskbar Mobility in Windows 11
Microsoft announced that the next major update to the Windows 11 interface will restore the ability to place the taskbar not only at the bottom of the screen but also at the top or on the sides. This decision was made after five years of user demand for this feature.
> Who said it:
> Windows division head Pavan Davuluri noted that moving the taskbar is “one of the biggest requests” from the audience.
When will it be available?
* In the coming weeks, the update will appear in the Windows Insider program (preview).
* By the end of this year, it will become available to all users, The Verge reports.
What else changes?
* A “reduced” taskbar variant will appear – an additional option for those who prefer a more compact look.
* In the notification center, a new calendar widget that was previously absent in Windows 11 but was standard in Windows 10 will now be tested.
Why is this important?
The movable taskbar had been part of the Windows interface for decades, but it disappeared from Windows 11 in 2021, sparking negative user reactions. Criticism focused not only on the lack of mobility but also on the loss of basic features: small icons, date display on external monitors, and more. The element was originally created for Windows 10X and dual‑screen devices, then adapted for Windows 11.
Since the release of the latest OS version, Microsoft has been gradually restoring features that were available in Windows 10. Restoring the taskbar is a key step toward improving system performance and usability.
